Outdoor Recreation

Within a 20-minute radius, Clinton offers a multitude of options for outdoor recreation:

Columbia Trail - A multiuse path that runs from High Bridge in Hunterdon County north through Morris County. The trail is relatively flat and meanders along the South Branch of the Raritan River. It is approximately 5 miles from Clinton.

Ken Lockwood Gorge Management Area - Identified by NJ Monthly as one of the ten most beautiful spots in NJ, this gorge offers huge boulders, impressive rapids and a stand of Northern Hemlock trees. Fantastic for walking or biking and about 15 minutes from Clinton

Spruce Run Recreation Area - A state run park located within Clinton Township that offers swimming, boating, camping and hiking. It is popular with picnickers and also has guided nature walks and interpertative programs.

Round Valley Reservoir -  The reservoir covers over 2,000 acres and is approximately 180 feet deep, the deepest lake in New Jersey. Round Valley offers wilderness camping accessible only by hiking or boating. The Resevoir is  also popular with boaters, hikers, and picknickers. In the winter it is a popular locale for sledding and cross country skiing.

Landsdown Trail  - Located within the Town of Clinton, this popular trail hosts bikers, runners, walkers, and horseback riders. The southern end of the trail connects with the longer Capoolong Creek WIldlife Management area.
