Locks:

New Jersey law mandates that a firearm be stored in a securely locked box or container; or in a location which a reasonable person would believe to be secure; or securely locked with a trigger lock. International Firearms Safety Rules:
1. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded until positively ascertained otherwise, by you.
2. Never point a firearm at anything or anybody that you do not intent to shoot, or in a direction where an unintentional discharge may do harm. 
3. Never place your finger into the trigger guard until ready and justified to fire. 
4. Be sure of your target, backstop and beyond.  

Seatbelts

Seat Belts Save Lives! 

More than 2,000 unbuckled drivers and front seat passengers died on New Jersey 's roadways in the past 10 years. Seatbelts work with air bags to protect a vehicles occupant.

New Jersey 's Child Passenger Law  

Children up to age 8 or 80 pounds must ride in a safety or booster seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. If there is no rear seat, the child must sit in the front seat secured by a child safety seat or a booster seat. Children under the age of eight (8) who weigh more than 80 pounds must wear a seatbelt anywhere in the vehicle. Passengers age 8 to 18 (regardless of weight) must wear a seatbelt anywhere inside a vehicle.  Click It or Ticket…It's the Law!

Never give out identifying information such as Name, Work Address, Home Address, School Name, or Telephone Number in a public message such as at a chat room or on bulletin boards. Never respond to messages or bulletin board items that are suggestive, obscene, belligerent, threatening or make you feel uncomfortable. Be careful when someone offers you something for nothing, such as gifts and money. Be very careful about any offers that involve your coming to a meeting or having someone visit your house. Tell your parent or guardian right away if you come across any information that makes you feel uncomfortable. Never arrange a face-to-face meeting without telling your parent or guardian. If your parent or guardian agrees to the meeting, make sure that you meet in a public place and have a parent or guardian with you. Remember that people online may not be who they seem. Because you can't see or even hear the person it would be easy for someone to misrepresent him- or herself. Thus, someone indicating that "she" is a "12-year-old-girl" could in reality be an older man. Be sure that you are dealing with someone that you and your parents know and trust before giving out any personal information about yourself via E-mail. Get to know your "online friends" just as you get to know all of your other friends.   

Identity Theft 

Identity Theft is increasing becoming a very serious problem. On average it takes a victim of identity theft two years to clear his/her name. The best defense against identity theft is securing all information containing personal or financial information. Some of the ways to do this are:

  • Destroy all old financial statements
  • Keep track of all credit cards and checks
  • A criminal can obtain all information on your credit card, if you let your credit card out of your sight for even a brief time period. This commonly occurs at gas stations, restaurants, etc.
  • Be careful about sending your information on the World Wide Web. Only deal with known secure web sites.
  • Report all lost credit cards and personal checks to your financial institution.
  • Run a personal credit check at least once a year.

The Town of Clinton Police Investigation Division will actively investigate all instances of identity theft. Please report the theft as soon as you discover it.   3. Drive the posted speed limit or slower if poor conditions exist. 
  4. You will receive a traffic summons if you travel in excess of the posted speed limit in a school zone! 
  5. Parking is a rare commodity in Clinton , please be courteous to others and obey the parking limits. 
  6. Secure your homes, vehicles and businesses. 
  7. Make sure your locks, alarms and light timers are operable. 
  8. Skateboarding is not allowed in the downtown area (Main St, E. Main St, Leigh St or Lower Center St.) or on public streets.
